What is Nursing?

“Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.”

What greater purpose of life is there? I feel that nursing is the root and that many branches and leaves, or aspects of life stem from it. In the picture (thank you to zazzle.com for the picture), I show the different occupations that stemmed from nursing — but there is more. It is really exciting, for me, to have this kind of background. I am really excited about the future of nursing and what it will involve.

I feel strongly about each aspect of nursing in the definition above, defined by the American Nurse Association, and I hope that I will be involved deeply in each part throughout my career.
